Irma S. Caulkins
MISSOULA - Irma Stark Caulkins, 100, of Missoula, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Village Health Care Center.Born in Bozeman on May 2, 1901, she was the daughter of Associate Justice of Montana Albert P. Stark and Mary F. Stark and was the sister of the late Albert P. Stark Jr. and the late Russell F. Stark.
Irma graduated from Park County High School in Livingston in 1919 and from the University of Montana in 1923. She taught high school history and English for three years in Montana.
Irma taught for seven years at Kirkland High School in Washington state. She attended summer school at USC. During World War II, she taught history for a year at Napa (Calif.) Union High School.
In 1939 Irma married Charles C. Caulkins, M.D., a native of Big Timber, in Berkeley, Calif. They lived in Napa. He died in 1977, and she moved to Missoula in 1979.
In Napa, Irma was a member of the Keystone Chapter of Eastern Star, AAUW, Republican Women, Napa County Medical Auxiliary and Chapter PJ of PEO. In Missoula, she was a member of Chapter AT of PEO. She was a 75-year member of Delta Gamma.
Irma's descendants will meet in Washington state later in the year for a private memorial, and she requested that no services be held at the present time. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
The Montana Cremation and Memorial Soxiety, 3035 S. Russell St., assisted the family with arrangements.
Daniel Bert Baumgartner
POLSON - Daniel Bert Baumgartner, 82, of Polson, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at the Fort Harrison Veterans Hospital.
Born June 2, 1919, in Ronan to George and Goldie (Pratt) Normandeau, Daniel attended schools in Ronan. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to Montana and worked for the Columbia Falls Aluminum Co. He then moved to Washington and worked as a welder for the Boeing Aircraft Co. He returned to Ronan and became a stonemason until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Leonard Baumgartner and two brothers.
He is survived by his former wife Pearl Rose Baumgartner of Polson; his children, Priscilla Romero of Albuquerque, N.M.; Charles Baumgartner of Missoula; Sandra Martinez of Wichita Falls, Texas; and Sheila Reum of Polson; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Total Life Christian Center in Polson, followed by military honors at Lakeview Cemetery.
The family requests memorials to the American Heart Association or to the Montana Diabetes Association.

Eleanor W. Roth
MISSOULA - Eleanor W. Roth, 84, of Missoula, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at Village Health Care Center, where she was a resident.
Funeral services will be held later this week in Boonville, Ind.
Local arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
Leota Grace Davidson
LIBBY - Leota Grace Davidson, 93, of Libby, died of natural causes Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at St. John's Lutheran Hospital.
Survivors include her daughter Lida Fields and son Roy Davidson, both of Libby; brother Frank Moody of Portland, Ore.; sister Mildred Gould and husband, Lloyd, of Libby; three grandchildren, Cynthia Stephens and husband, Dan, of Libby; Beth Jean Hibbs and husband, Michael, of Spokane; and Susan C. VanDenBurg and husband, Frank, of Ramer, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Nelson and Vial Funeral Home, where funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Kenny Wylie Holland
DILLON - Kenny Wylie Holland of Dillon died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, while snowmobiling with friends in the Snowline area south of Lima.
He was born May 23, 1955, in Missoula. Kenny attended Camas Prairie Grade School, Hot Springs High School and Montana State University in Bozeman.
Kenny traveled the rodeo circuit in the MRA and NRA of Montana while steer wrestling and team roping. He quickly earned the respect and admiration of everyone he met through his easygoing personality and cheery attitude.
He moved to Dillon in 1983 and worked as a truck driver until starting his own trucking business. He also started a free-lance landscaping and Bobcat service business in addition to his regular mail route into the Centennial Valley.
Kenny married Vila Martin on April 13, 1995, and gained a daughter, Erin, and a son, Scott. Together they owned and operated the Yesterday's Calf-A in Dell.
Kenny, more affectionately known as "Hound," enjoyed spending time with family, sports and the outdoors. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, infectious laugh and the ability to bring a smile to anyone's face.
Survivors include his parents Tom and Betty of Dillon; brothers Dan of San Francisco, Bub of Vaughn and Tom (Patti) of Dillon; sister Mary Jo (Kelly) Davis of Malad, Idaho; uncles William (Mary Ellen) of Plains and James (Therese) of Camas Prairie; aunt Muriel Holland of Plains; nieces and nephews Mandi, Tyler and Jordan Holland of Dillon; Justin Borders of Polson; and Jana, Lindsay and Kiely Davis of Malad; and many special cousins and friends everywhere.
Kenny was preceded in death by his grandparents and uncle Joe Holland of Plains.
A prayer vigil will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Brundage Funeral Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the St. Rose of Lima Parish. A luncheon will follow at the Dillon Elks Club.

James Richard 'Dick' Hayes
DARBY - James Richard "Dick" Hayes, 70, passed away of cancer at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002.
Born in High Point, N.C., on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Edgar Hiatt Hayes and Ollie C. (Chamelin) Hayes. He graduated from High Point High School.
He married Sallye Helene (Johnston) Hayes .
He enjoyed numerous outdoor activities, including basketball, raising llamas, traveling to different areas and most of all "teas'n and pleas'n" the love of his life, Sallye.
He worked as a textile mill representative and a llama breeder.
Survivors include his son James "Jimmy" Richard Jr. and Susan Rowland Hayes and children James Richard III and Joshua Rowland Hayes of High Point; son John Edward Hayes and children Ashley Marie, Kayla Elizabeth and John Edward Jr. of Thomasville, N.C.; daughter Suzanne Elizabeth Bowe of Nashville, Tenn.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and nine grandchildren.
The family wishes you to join them in a moment of prayer, reflection and silence in memory of Dick and in uplifting Sallye wherever you may find yourself on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, 9 p.m. EST, 8 p.m. CST or 6 p.m. PST.

Eva Ruth Gregg
KALISPELL - Eva Ruth Gregg, 75, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at her home in Kalispell.
She was born Dec. 4, 1926, in White Sulphur Springs to Joseph and Amanda Roth Birky.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Theresa Gregg; daughter and son-in-law, Leona and Mike Steenson; daughter Romona Gregg; and daughter and son-in-law, Helen Jaime and Mike Wagner, all of Kalispell; siblings Emma Ingles of Longmont, Colo.; Jake Birky of Canada; and Ezra Birky of Kalispell; grandchildren Dawn and Nate Gregg, Dauna Wareham, David Wagner and Christopher Nichols; and great-grandchildren Carissa, Sage, Autumn, Bridger, Dustin and Kailey.
Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home, where funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will follow at Glacier Memorial Gardens.
Steven Albert Andrews
HOT SPRINGS - Steven Albert Andrews, 81, of Hot Springs, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Hot Springs.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1920, in Lonepine, the son of Harry and Leota Andrews. Steven attended Lonepine School, graduating in 1939. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and had just graduated from aviation school when World War II started.
Steven was sent directly to the South Pacific to serve his country and was there for more than two years before returning to the States. He married Betty Magera, and they have been together for 58 years.
Steven loved the Navy and was a life member of Lone Prairie Springs VFW Post 5159. He also loved ranching, which he did for 31 years in Lonepine. He served on the school board and cemetery board as well as several others. He was a 4-H leader, carpenter, mechanic, plumber - you name it, he could do almost anything and was always helping his neighbors and friends.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. In 1978 he retired to Hot Springs, where he was very active in the Senior Center, serving two terms as president.
He is survived by his wife Betty at the family home in Hot Springs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve Jr. and Donna of Kalispell, and Randal "Boss" and Linda of Hot Springs; four grandchildren, Chris Andrews of Delray Beach, Fla.; Tom Andrews of Pelican, Alaska; Lora SeaBaugh of Boise, Idaho; and Angie Burgner of Portland, Ore.; three great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, Deborah Inman of Missoula, Kelly Jaques of Kalispell and Kaece Matt of Hot Springs; two step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Sweeney of Lonepine; and several nieces and nephews.
Military graveside services, conducted by the Lone Prairie Springs VFW Post, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Murray Memorial Cemetery in Lonepine. A potluck lunch will follow at Lonepine Hall.
The family suggests memorials to Lonepine Hall or to the Hot Springs Senior Center.

Zoe M. Abbott Pettit
THOMPSON FALLS - Zoe M. Abbott Pettit, 81, of Thompson Falls, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Clark Fork Valley Nursing Home in Plains.
She is survived by one son, Gary Abbott of Thompson Falls; three daughters, Patricia Johnson, Laurie Mitzalis and Taryn Pettit; two sisters, Marcie Louden and Mary Heinz; two brothers, Dave and Elmer Kinne; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m. at the Thompson Falls Community Center. Burial will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. PST at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Chet, Carol and Jared Hope
WHITEFISH - A memorial service for Chet, Carol and Jared Hope will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Memorial Field in Whitefish. In case of bad weather, the service will be held in the Central School auditorium.
A reception will follow in the multipurpose room at Muldown School. Following cremation, a private family service will be held.
Chet, Carol and Jared died Sunday, Feb. 11, at their home in Whitefish.
Contributions may be made through the Whitefish Community Foundation, in care of the Hope Family, Box 1060, Whitefish, MT 59937; or call 863-1781. These contributions will be granted to Muldown School or to the Whitefish Bike Path Project.

Pearl Charlotte Mutzenberger
KALISPELL - Pearl Charlotte Mutzenberger, 80, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 11, 1921, in Drayton, N.D., to Carl and Louise Johnson.
Survivors include her son Ron Mohn of Columbia Falls; stepson Howard Mutzenberger of Kellogg, Idaho; stepdaughters Star Connerly of Lewiston, Idaho, and Cricket Corbeill of Kellogg; seven step-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Johnson Mortuary. A reception will follow in the basement community room of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Wildlife Return, 37 Panoramic Drive, Kalispell, MT 59901; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Lyle Weldon Hiatt
CHARLO - Lyle Weldon Hiatt of Charlo passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at age 85.
He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Aug. 20, 1916.
Lyle is survived by three daughters, Edna (Ken) Esterby of Charlo, Koven (Don) McKenzie of Helena and Joan (Ron) Ruble of Spokane; three sons, Dwayne Hiatt of Auburn, Wash.; Elwood (Nina) Hiatt of Lincoln; and Terry (Diane) Hiatt of Dallastown, Pa.; a grandson whom he raised, Rodger (Marie) Hiatt of Chattaroy, Wash.; seven other grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; one brother, Marvin (Grace) Hiatt of Deer Lodge; and three sisters, Irma Stern of Spokane, Lavanna (Edward) Bays of Lakeside and Dorma (Rollie) Hebel of McAllister.
Cremation has taken place and no service will be held at this time. A memorial service will be held Aug. 3 in Lincoln at the annual Hiatt family reunion.
