Raymond Robert Hiltz
DEER LODGE - Raymond R. Hiltz, 80, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, in Deer Lodge.He was born Oct. 30, 1923, in Chicago, to Edward and Mary Hiltz. After Mary's death, the family moved to Jens in 1933.
Ray served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1941-42. He was very proud of the work he did at the Lewis and Clark Caverns.
Ray married Florence Tanner in the spring of 1947 and had four children. Later in life Ray married Ina Claire Berryman Perkins and combined his family with her children, Tom, Kathy and Geri.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother, Theodore and wife Ina in 1987.
Survivors include four children, Barbara Ann Personett (Greg) of Fargo, N.D., Raelene Rose Kemner (Tim) of Clancy, Daniel Edward Hiltz (Mary) of Missoula and Danell Marie Hiltz of Bouse, Ariz.; brothers Albert, Ernest, Jack, Thomas, Daniel and Chris; sisters Helen Hiltz, Betty Hiltz and Marjorie Hiltz Daems; and many nieces and nephews.
Ray had a very special relationship with surviving brother Edward J. and sister Florence Irene Dodge, both of Deer Lodge. Together they were called the Three Musketeers, together as one throughout life.
Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the Jewell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday. Military burial will be Monday, Dec. 1, at Fort Harrison Veterans Cemetery in Helena.
Memorials may be made to Fort Harrison Veterans Cemetery or charity of the donor's choice.
Pauline E. Rebich
MISSOULA - Pauline Edna Rebich, 72, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at St. Patrick Hospital after a brief illness.Pauline was born on Aug. 17, 1931, in Butte, to Patrick and Lillian Sullivan. She was the oldest of five children.
After graduating from Butte Girls' Central and Butte Business College, she worked for Fuller Paints.
She met her husband of 51 years, Carl Rebich, on a blind date; a hayride at the "Reservoir." Carl and Pauline were married on June 14, 1952. Together they raised six children. They moved to Missoula in 1963.
After all of the children were in school, Pauline worked for State Farm Insurance and she was a member of Insurance Women of Missoula.
Pauline was a longtime member of St. Anthony Parish and Altar Society. She was the neighborhood chair for many charity drives.
Pauline and Carl traveled extensively and are huge "Griz" fans. They even followed the team to Japan, Georgia Southern, Hofstra and Maine.
Pauline and Carl's marriage was an inspiration to their children and many others. Pauline was a wonderful role model; treating all with love, respect and dignity.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara Teixeira; and son Mike.
She is survived by her loving husband Carl; her children, Kathy Munson (David) of Billings, granddaughters Courtney and Rachel and grandson Adam, Barb Jette (Jerry) of Billings and grandsons Ryan and Brett, Pat Rebich (Anita) of Atascadero, Calif., Sheila Seifert (Dean) of Miles City, Marty Rebich (Phanh) of Beaverton, Ore., and granddaughters Olivia and Breanna.
She is also survived by her brothers, Lou Sullivan (Hazel), Mike Sullivan (Dee) and Ray Sullivan; and her special cousin, Helen Marie Lavelle; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the physicians, nurses and all staff in the Special Care Unit at St. Patrick Hospital.
A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27. A memorial celebration of Pauline's life will be held at noon Friday at St. Anthony Parish. A luncheon reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for the new St. Anthony Parish Hall, 217 Tremont St. or a charily of your choice.
Services are under the care and direction of Garden City Funeral Home.
Katherine J. Billehus
MISSOULA - Katherine J. Billehus, 87, passed away on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, in Missoula.She was born on Sept. 22, 1916, to Henry and Sophia Dankers in Glenwood, Minn.
Katherine married Orville Billehus in 1941. They raised their family in Menomonie, Wis., where Orville operated the St. Clair Billehus men's clothing store.
In 1982, Katherine moved to Missoula, where she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Katherine's joy in life was her family, and the unconditional love she gave her children will be passed down through the generations.
Katherine is survived by her son, Alan Billehus and wife Linda of Missoula; daughter DeAnn Billehus of Oregon; daughter Mary McDonald and husband Jeff of Wyoming; grandchildren Jason Billehus of Missoula, Rachel Reilly of San Francisco, Anna Billehus of Key West, Fla., and Greg McDonald of Wyoming; sisters Lucille Riley, Cecil Cassell and Dolores Dankers, all of Glenwood, Minn., and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband Orville; sisters Florence Dankers, Grace Sperry and Norena Kaldahl; and brothers Harold, Richard and Elmer Dankers.
As a memorial to Katherine, the family suggests visiting a loved one, or making a memorial donation in Katherine's name to the fund to rebuild the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood, at the Glenwood State Bank, 5 E. Minnesota Ave., Glenwood, MN 56334.
Private memorial services for Katherine will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of the Montana Cremation and Memorial Society.
Daniel Jason Schmidt
SEELEY LAKE - Daniel Jason Schmidt died on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at his home in Seeley Lake.Life can be full of surprises and unexpected turns. This year has been one of those years for our family. Today, God called Dan home and we say goodbye to a young man who was to have been our son-in-law.
Daniel was born in Bismarck, N.D., on Jan. 26, 1982.
Daniel Schmidt came into our lives a year ago in July. He and our daughter Jamie were to be married in August. Shortly after they began dating, Dan was diagnosed with cancer.
At several points throughout his treatment, we were hopeful he was going to beat it. Throughout his brave battle we came to know a very special young man.
Soft spoken with a gentle smile and warm blue eyes, he became a very big part of our lives. We will miss you Dan and never forget what you came to mean to us. We wish you peace in a place with the Lord where you will no longer be in pain. Although the cancer overcame your body, your memory will always live on in the hearts of those that loved you.
Thank you for loving our daughter and bringing a special happiness into her life. We will never forget you.
You are survived by your family in Bozeman and your extended family here in Seeley Lake, Ralph and Peggy Cahoon and family, your loving fiancée Jamie Richards and all of your friends at the Rich Ranch. Go rest in peace and love.
Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, in Bozeman.
John V. Vinson
CHARLO - John V. Vinson, 81, of Charlo, died at his home on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003.He was born on March 8, 1922, in Big Arm, to Robert F. and Stella (Bower) Vinson.
John served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Sally Petitclerc of Charlo; his son, Bryce of San Clemente, Calif.; two sisters, Jean Sullivan of Great Falls and Amy Nelson of Lolo; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Grogan Funeral Home with the Rev. Russ Barber officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
Arthur Julius Helland
KALISPELL - Arthur Julius Helland, 72, died on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center.He was born on Oct. 14, 1931, in Binford, N.D., to Hjalmer and Julia (Gilbertson) Helland.
Arthur enlisted in the Army and served in Korea.
He married Donna Nelson in Fargo, N.D. on June 21, 1954.
Survivors include his wife Donna; sons Jeff and Aaron; daughters, Linda Hills, Terryl Cole, LaDonna Culbert and Yvonne Tarr, all of the Flathead Valley; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
Francis Malone
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Mass of Christian Burial for Francis Malone, 94-year-old Buffalo, Wyo., man who died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2003, at the Johnson County Memorial Hospital, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Missoula with Father Jerry Graham S. J. as celebrant.Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, at Garden City Funeral Home with vigil services following at 7 p.m.
Friends may donate in his memory to the University of Montana Foundation, Elsie G. Malone Scholarship, at P.O. Box 7159 in Missoula, 59807.
Francis Malone was born Jan. 27, 1909, in Missoula to Michael and Mollie Malone. He grew up and received his education in Missoula and attended the University of Montana where he was a member of their boxing team.
He moved to California in 1936, where he met and married Elsie Hershberg on Oct. 23, 1937, in San Francisco. They made their home in Whittier, Calif., and Francis was inducted into the U.S. Army and served during World War II. After the war he returned to California where he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers.
Mrs. Malone died in 1989 and in 1990 Francis moved to Buffalo where he continued to live until the time of his death.
Francis was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was very proud and supportive of his nieces, nephews and extended family and enjoyed the time he spent with them at family gatherings and holidays.
Francis is survived by several nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister and two brothers.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
Norman Charles Pederson
CARLIN, Nev. - Norman Charles Pederson, loving husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away quietly at his home in Carlin, Nev., after a lingering illness on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003. Norman was formerly of Philipsburg.Norman was born on April 21, 1941, in Knox, N.D., the fifth son of 12 children, born to Joe and Nettie Pederson.
He married Janet Lee in West Wendover, Nev., on Aug. 28, 2002.
Norman was raised in Butte and surrounding area. He loved to be outdoors hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed playing darts and cribbage, but his passions were his family and friends.
He was a miner by trade and one of the best in the business. He worked hard, played hard and he enjoyed life.
Norman is survived by his wife Janet of Carlin; brothers Bud Pederson of Reno, Nev., Gary (Noreen) Pederson of Airway Heights, Wash., Rich (Bev) Pederson and Curt (Terry) Pederson, all of Philipsburg, Dale (Jackie) Pederson of Salmon, Idaho, and Glenn (Edie) Pederson of Spring Creek, Nev.; sisters Mary (Ken) Bertz of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Sue (Larry) Bertz of Spokane; children Ann Pederson and Cindy Wright, both of Sheridan, Norman Pederson of Twin Bridges, David Pederson of Carlin, Selina Lant and Wade Pederson, both of Philipsburg and Brenda McDonald of Anaconda; grandchildren Robert, Tommy Joe, Michael, Chera, Cynthia, Cody, Derick, Nicole, Erin and Alexandria; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, at the Senior Center in Philipsburg. Please come and share your stories with the rest of his family and friends. There will be a memorial held for Norman in Carlin at a time to be announced in the spring.
