Jeanne M. Elgen
MISSOULA - Jeanne M. Elgen, 86, passed away peacefully in Missoula on Dec. 20, 2003, with her daughter Connie and husband Jack Byrne at her side.Jeanne was born on June 20, 1917, to Charles and Helen Nicholson in McLeod, Mont. She attended schools in McLeod and Big Timber and graduated from Sweetgrass County High School in 1935.
After graduation she attended Johnson Business College in Billings before accepting employment with the county agent at the Sweetgrass County Courthouse.
They moved down to the lower ranch on Jarrett Creek in 1948 and lived there until his death in a haying accident in 1950. She continued to run the ranch with the help of a couple of hired hands after Ralph's death.
They had three children, Monte, Steven and Connie Jarrett.
She married Henry Elgen on Sept. 3, 1954 and they continued to work and live on the ranch west of Big Timber until 1962, when they sold the ranch and built a house in town. They had one son, John Elgen.
Jeanne worked in the Sweetgrass County Sheriff's Office as a stenographer, radio dispatcher and deputy from 1962 until her retirement in 1980. Jeanne was very proud of her work at the sheriff's office and she had some interesting stories to tell about her adventures transporting women to Warm Springs and Galen. She also taught some classes at the police academy in Bozeman.
Jeanne was very active in the Sweetgrass County Red Cross, a long-time member of the American Legion and was a founding member of the Crazy Mountain Museum.
Jeanne loved to fish, sew, crochet and oil paint. She enjoyed the winters that they spent down south. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Jeanne and Henry moved to Missoula in November 1999, to an assisted living facility. After Henry's death on April 17, 2003, she moved to the smaller more personal Beehive Homes assisted living.
She enjoyed her final months there very much, especially all the attention and care she received from the staff. We are very grateful to them, Partners in Home Care and the hospice nurses who took such good care of her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald Nicholson and Dick Nicholson; sister Marian Cashen; as well as son Steven Jarrett, in an auto accident in 1962.
She is survived by two sons, Monte Jarrett of Big Timber and John Elgen of Great Falls; daughter Connie Jarrett Byrne and husband Jack of Missoula; two granddaughters, Gina Breding (Will) Rothrock of Spanaway, Wash., Cindy Breding (Mike) Hext of Missoula; one grandson, Scott Breding and wife Jana of Edgar; and nine great-grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service in Big Timber will be planned at a later date.
Memorials can be made to the Crazy Mountain Museum in Big Timber, Partners in Home Care in Missoula or the charity of your choice.
A small service for family and friends will be held at the Beehive Homes in the near future.
Montana Frances Kennedy
BROWNING - Montana Frances (Juneau) Kennedy, 81, of Browning, died of a stroke Dec. 11, 2003, at a Great Falls hospital.She was born Jan. 20, 1922, and raised in Browning.
On Aug. 19, 1939, she married William Kennedy.
She received her GED and attended Eastern Montana College in Billings for one year. She was a homemaker and a nurse's aide in Missoula and Great Falls hospitals. A member of the PTA and AARP, she enjoyed knitting, baking, oil painting, pottery, leather crafts, beading, golfing and card games.
Survivors include her husband William W. Kennedy; daughters Patricia A. Phillips and husband Gary of Anchorage, Alaska, and Carole L. Meyers of Missoula; sons William Bailey Kennedy and wife Sherian of Perkins, Okla., and Dennis Kennedy of Arizona; sisters Joyce Conway, Barbara Kipp and Myrna Galbreath, all of Browning; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by daughters Phyllis and Frances Kennedy.
Her funeral was held Dec. 15, at Little Brown Parish with burial at Willow Creek Cemetery.
Day Funeral Home in Cut Bank handled the arrangements.
Sandra Lee 'Sandi' Foster
HELENA - Sandra "Sandi" Lee Foster passed away on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at St. Peter's Hospital due to complications from an extended illness.Sandi was born on Oct. 13, 1944, to Basil Oakley Searle and Alice Maude (Brownlow) Searle in Helena. Sandi lived in Helena all of her life, attending Jefferson Grade School, Helena Junior High and Helena High School, where she graduated in 1962.
Sandi was employed with U.S. West as an assistant staff manager in the rates and tariffs division, where she retired in 1993 after 25 years of service.
Sandi had numerous hobbies including gardening, crocheting, camping, traveling, and attending rodeos.
Her greatest accomplishments were raising her children, spending time with and providing continual support for her grandchildren. Sandi will be remembered for her love of her family.
Sandi is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband Joseph Foster and their children, Sean O'Reilly and his wife Tami, Stacey (O'Reilly) Petrey and her husband Steve, Stauna (O'Reilly) Gardner and her husband Tracy, all of Arlee, Renee Foster of Helena, Brett Foster of Nashville, Tenn., and Mark Foster of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren Kyle and Krista O'Reilly, Shealee and Shane Petrey, Mykella and Dani Kunnary, Chase Gardner, Chelsea, Dylan and Jacob Foster; as well numerous extended family members, cousins and several close friends.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Hagler-Anderson Mortuary at 650 Logan. Interment will follow at Forestvale Cemetery.

Mary E. Wehmeyer
MISSOULA - Mary E. Wehmeyer, 86, passed away early in the morning Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at her residence in Missoula.Born in Winthrop, Wash., on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 1917, was the daughter of the late Charles Newell and Florence R. (Morrow) Wehmeyer. Mary graduated from Winthrop High School.
She loved gardening, music, reading and making pets out of the farm animals. She never married but was always surrounded by extended family. Mary chose to stay on the family farm taking care of her elderly parents.
Her parents and a nephew Kim Wehmeyer preceded Mary in death.
Her brother, Ray and Sally Wehmeyer of Missoula survive her along with nieces and nephews Mike and Sue Wehmeyer, Pat and Walter Jensen, Kirk and Marilyn Wehmeyer; great nieces and great nephews Eric, Jen and Gracie Jo Jensen, Brian Jensen, Chris Jensen, Anthony Jensen, Sydney and Michael Wehmeyer and Tanner and Katie Wehmeyer.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the Missoula Manor chapel, 909 W. Central. Father Ed Hislit will officiate. Refreshments will be in the social room. Inurnment of the cremated remains will be in Winthrop at a later date.

Eleanor V. Clark
MISSOULA - Eleanor V. Clark, 81, of Missoula, died of natural causes on Dec. 21, 2003, at Evergreen Health Care of Missoula.She was born on May 25, 1922 in Maine Prairie, Minn., to Jesse Kale and Nora Daniels. They lived there till the family moved to eastern Montana when she was about six.
Eleanor married Donald Price. They had one son, Leroy. They divorced soon after.
In 1945, she married the love of her life, Kenneth S. Clark. They had three children.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jessee and Nora Kale; brothers Earl, Elmer Mike (fraternal twin); sister Grace Stottler; son Leroy Donald Price and husband Kenneth.
Survivors are brother Bob (Shirley) Kale of Miles City; sisters-in-law Bette Kale of Miles City and Bette Kale of Billings; sons Roger (Linda) of Turah and Dennis (Eva) of Missoula; daughter Kathy (Ken) of Glen Ullin, N.D.; grandchildren Kim Peak of Spokane, Jessica Trommel of Karne, Mo., Misty Monson-Cumming of Missoula, Lisa Muggli of Seattle, Jeremy Clark of Missouri and Kennesha and Michael Clark of Whilehall; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other members of extended families that loved her very much.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Missoula.
Henrietta 'Toots' Pritzkau
THOMPSON FALLS - Henrietta "Toots" Pritzkau, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Clark Fork Valley Nursing Home in Plains.She was born on Aug. 13, 1915, near Northwood, N.D., the daughter of John and Minnie Siebrand Schol.
She married Ronald Pritzkau who preceded her in death in May 2000.
She is survived by her eight children and their families.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Thompson Falls Cemetery.
Dorothy Ann Furrow
KALISPELL - Dorothy Ann Furrow, 76, died on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Immanuel Lutheran Home.She was born on Aug. 19, 1927, to John and Anna Bordeaux in Sheridan, Wyo.
Dorothy married Allen Furrow in Seattle in 1948. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Doug Furrow and Teri Bjornrud, both of Kalispell, Beckie Casey of Casper, Wyo., and Ken Furrow of Missoula; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow services at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Buffalo Hill Funeral Home.
Charlotte 'Louise' Fish
WHITEFISH - Charlotte "Louise" Fish, 78, died on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at North Valley Hospital in Whitefish.She was born Sept. 3, 1925, in West Bridgewater, Pa., to Charles Louis and Bertha Mae (Kitchen) Fish.
She was preceded in death by husbands William Powell and Harry Wright and ex-husband, William Timmis.
Survivors include her six children, Cheryl Hosford of Oregon, Robert Powell of Arizona, Harry Wright Jr. of Denver, Connie Reed of Pennsylvania, Debbie Owens of Kalispell and Lucinda Fisher of Utah.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Whitefish Road in Kalispell.
Loren E. Kraft
GRANTSDALE - Loren E. Kraft, 73, of Hamilton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at his home in Grantsdale.Loren was born on April 24, 1930, in Hamilton, to the late Loren Noel and Lulu Marie Rolo Kraft. He received his education in the Bitterroot Valley.
Loren entered the U.S. Marines in 1947 and was discharge in 1950, returning to the valley.
Most of his adult life was spent as a logger. He enjoyed his family, the outdoors hunting, fishing and four wheeling; spending many hours mining for sapphires.
On Dec. 11, 1954, he married Violet L. Peters in Superior.
Loren is survived by his wife Violet of the family home; children Terri and husband Don Briggs of Pendleton, Ore., Danae and husband Gene Fine of Imbler, Ore., Teena and husband Pfyffer of Missoula, Michael Kraft of Hamilton, Pamela and husband Ronald Wagner of Missoula, Craig Kraft of Ogden, Utah, and Cindy and husband Pete Caimi of Hamilton; stepbrother Darrell Binkard of Hamilton; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The Kraft family will privately place the urn. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family suggests memorials to Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, Cancer Treatment Center or to MDM-Hospice of the Bitterroot Foundation, 1200 Westwood Drive, Hamilton, MT 59840.
Arrangements are under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.
