Mysterious glob found near RML destroyed
By the Missoulian State Bureau

HELENA - Rocky Mountain Laboratories and Missoula city and county officials have found and destroyed a strange yet harmless object near the lab's perimeter fence in Hamilton.

Lab security guards on Monday found what appeared to be a glob of BBs or gravel held together in wax or plastic, said Marshall Bloom, associate director of Rocky Mountain Labs. The glob was not near houses or lab buildings, Bloom said.

Following lab protocols, National Institutes of Health officers stationed at the lab conducted preliminary tests on the object before calling in technicians from the Missoula County Sheriff's Department and the Missoula Police Department.

The object was X-rayed, revealing that it was not explosive and it was remotely destroyed, Bloom said. Pieces of the glob were taken to the state Crime Lab in Missoula for further analysis.

Bloom said he wasn't exactly sure what strange object was, but it wasn't dangerous.
