(AP) - Two women were killed Sunday in single-vehicle crashes near Plains and east of Townsend and both of them weren't wearing seatbelts, the Montana Highway Patrol said.

A 49-year-old woman from Townsend died when her westbound vehicle went out of control on U.S. 12 about seven miles east of the Broadwater County community, skidded broadside and began spinning. She was ejected and died at the scene of the 9 a.m. crash, the patrol said.

A 3-year-old belted girl was not hurt.

A 24-year-old Plains woman died about 6:30 a.m. when her sport utility vehicle went off Montana 200 near Plains and rolled several times down an embankment. She was alone and not wearing a seatbelt, the patrol said.

Names were not available.

In both crashes, speed was not a factor and the roads were dry, the patrol said.

The deaths pushed the Montana fatality count to 36, compared with 27 on May 6, 2004.
