Missoula County sheriff's deputy suspended after DUI
By COLIN McDONALD of the Missoulian

Missoula County Sheriff's Deputy Doug Hartsell Jr. has been suspended with pay after he was cited for DUI in Ravalli County.

Montana Highway Patrol Capt. Tom Hamilton said one of his officers stopped the off-duty deputy's Honda Accord at 3 a.m. Saturday after a stop-sign violation at an intersection north of Florence.

This is the first offense for Hartsell, who was hired as a deputy in June 2003.

Missoula County Sheriff Mike McMeekin said he would wait until he receives a report on the matter from Capt. Carl Ibsen to decide on any disciplinary action.

In the meantime, Hartsell will remain on suspension.

In November 2002, Missoula Police Officer Ric Dahlgren was arrested for drunken driving.

Dahlgren was suspended without pay for 30 days after he pleaded guilty. He was ordered to pay a $350 fine and take an alcohol abuse course.
