Campaign consultant to speak
By Ginny Merriam of the Missoulian

David Sirota, a consultant for Gov. Brian Schweitzer's campaigns for governor and the U.S. Senate and a fellow at the Washington, D.C., Center for American Progress, will speak Tuesday evening at the Missoula County Democrats convention.

Sirota's talk, "Democrats' Da Vinci Code," is free and open to the public at 8 p.m. in City Council Chambers in City Hall, 435 Ryman St.

Sirota will discuss why populism will be the way back to prominence for Democrats.

"Red-region progressives show that having the guts to stand up for middle America - even when it draws the ire of corporate America - is as powerful a statement about morality and authenticity as any of the GOP's demagoguery on 'guns, God and gays,' " he said in a press release.

Sirota lives in Helena and was chief spokesman for Democrats on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee before working on Schweitzer's campaigns. He is a guest on the "Al Franken Show" twice a week and writes for Nation magazine. He is writing a book for Random House on the middle-class economic squeeze.

Missoula County Democrats will hold their elections for officers and positions on the executive board at 7:30 p.m.
