He was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Junction City, Kan. He was adopted at age 9 by John and Tina Baughman.
He joined the Navy at age 17 when he graduated from high school. He spent four years aboard the USS Topeka in the Pacific until his discharge in November 1948.
After Jerry Ervin took over the company, Clifford worked for him for 25 years. The company moved to Montana, taking Cliff and Jean with them. The couple purchased a log home and Clifford learned a new trade of building log homes. He retired in 1991.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had the trip of a lifetime in 1979, going to the Arctic Circle in Canada to fish for arctic char. He also enjoyed gardening, barbecues, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was great at woodworking and all manners of home improvement. He was able to fix anything.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma Jean; his brother, Edward E. Baughman in Winter Harbor, Maine; sister Ruby McWilliams of Topeka, Kan.; half sister Bonnie Asbury of Wamego, Kan.; six children, Diane Gregory and husband of Hamilton, David and Jeanie Baughman of Riley, Kan., Clifford Daniel and Joan Baughman of Wamego, Dennis and Kelly Baughman of Hamilton, Dana Lee and Kasey Baughman of Victor and Donna Jean Baughman and Todd Paddock of Corvallis. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Kimberly, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Kaitlen, Regina, Melissa, David Lee, Mishanda, Clifford W., Michall, Heather and Ryan; eight great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Alex, Jenna, Coby, Wyatt, Johnathon, Lacey and Aiden.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the Daly-Leach Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Daly-Leach Chapel with Pastor Alvin House officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Corvallis American Legion.
