Peter J. Tocci

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Peter J, Tocci, 24, of Chandler, was killed in an attack on a U.S. diplomatic convoy in Mosul, Iraq, on Sept. 20, 2005.

He was born July 27, 1981, in Billings to Mark and Debbie Tocci.

Peter was a very gifted athlete who played baseball, football, basketball and golf. After graduation from high school in 1999, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Peter graduated with top honors in the Marine Financial School and the Marine Security Guard. He served in Estonia and Uruguay at the American embassies. Sgt. Tocci was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in February 2005.

Peter joined a private security company and in June was assigned to a diplomatic security detail for the State Department in Iraq. It was here he made the ultimate sacrifice.

Peter's family supported his vision, and with their love and prayers he went forth to make a difference in this world.

Peter is survived by his father, Mark Tocci of Glendale, Ariz.; mother, Debbie Tocci and Steve Mercurio of Chandler; two sisters, Angie Lackmann of Phoenix and Monica (Mel) Brown of Kalispell; a brother, Dominic Mercurio of Chandler; grandparents, Ray and Betty Tocci of Three Forks and Norm and Barb Felde of Moorhead, Minn.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and two nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the First Baptist Church of Three Forks, 705 N. Main St.
