Preserving history grants awarded

MISSOULA - Four grants totaling nearly $20,000 have been awarded through the fifth annual Historical Museum at Fort Missoula’s Preserving Missoula County’s History program.

Grants awarded included $7,000 to the Nine Mile Historic Church Preservation Group for restoration of a community-owned church; $2,500 to the Montana Natural History Center to upgrade its current Glacial Lake Missoula display; $10,000 to the North Missoula Community Development Corp. for stabilization of the Moon-Randolph Homestead; and $410 to the Missoula Iris Society for printing an informational and historical booklet.

The grants are made possible by the two-mill levy for the museum approved by voters in 2002.

“We feel that these are worthwhile projects that will help expand people’s appreciation of local history,” said museum board chair Gary Glynn. “These projects help preserve our valuable and unique Missoula County history for future generations.”

Glynn said the board was pleased with the number of applications received this year and the wide range of projects they represented.
