Warner, running unopposed this fall for his first full term, said he will remain on the court and continue his campaign.
"With modern advances in treatment, I have found that my work has not been affected in any way and I have suffered only one significant side effect from the therapy," Warner said in a statement.
Warner was appointed to the seat in 2003 by former Gov. Judy Martz, taking over the vacancy created by the departure of Terry Trieweiler. Warner, born in Great Falls, went to the University of Montana School of Law and was a District Court judge in Havre from 1988 until his appointment. He is also a former Havre city attorney.
Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma originates in the lymphatic system and tumors develop from white blood cells. There are more than 30 types of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and it is more common than Hodgkin's disease.
Warner said his doctors have told him that there is a better than 90 percent chance the cancer will go into remission after treatment, and that he can expect "many years of productive life."
"I remain fully able to perform the duties of a justice of the Supreme Court," Warner said. "I enjoy the job and I have the support of my family as well as that of my colleagues on the court."
Chief Justice Karla Gray said Warner is keeping a steady work pace.
"I am, of course, extremely sad that my colleague and friend Justice Warner is facing such a serious health concern," she said. "I am very heartened, indeed perhaps amazed, at Justice Warner's strength in meeting this matter and his ability to take on this course of treatment, maintain his wonderful sense of humor and remain entirely productive as a justice of this court. There certainly has been no decrease in his productivity, nor do I expect any."
Gov. Brian Schweitzer's spokeswoman Sarah Elliott said "our thoughts and prayers are with him, and we hope he makes a full recovery."
Warner and his wife, Katherine, have six grown children and 12 grandchildren.
