Rehberg, R-Mont., said he has given a $1,000 donation he received from Foley during a 1999 campaign to the Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch in Billings. Rehberg said he thought it better to find a charity that could use the money rather than return it to Foley.
"I don't want to enrich him or reward him for what he did," Rehberg said Tuesday.
"I'm glad he's gone," Rehberg said of Foley. "I wish we would have known sooner."
Some have been calling for the resignation of House Speaker Dennis Hastert as pressure mounts to determine what House leaders knew, and when, about Foley's behavior.
Rehberg said it is important to find out everything about the case, make sure it doesn't happen again and to make sure elected leaders are held to a high standard. But he said it is premature to lay blame on House leaders.
Rehberg said he believes Republicans moved quickly to get Foley to resign.
"Foley's gone," he said. "It's the right thing."
