A look at GOP budget plans

A updated comparison of the governor's budget request and Republican budget bills dealing with education, the governor's office and general government:

- K-12 spending is reduced $103 million from the governor's request, including an exclusion of plans for full-time kindergarten.

- Spending at the Department of Revenue is reduced $22.4 million, allowing for fewer audit employees and excluding plans for free electronic filing.

- The Department of Transportation request is cut by $7.3 million, chopping Gov. Brian Schweitzer's plan to sue federal regulators for failing to protect farmers from high shipping costs.

- Judicial-branch spending is reduced $1.6 million, and excludes funding for a law clerk to help people filing their own legal appeals.

- Spending in the governor's office is reduced $1.6 million, including cuts to the Marketing Montana and business recruitment programs.

- The secretary of state's office remains untouched.

- State auditor's office spending increases $211,000.

- Department of Administration plans cut $18.2 million.

- Office of Public Defender is cut by $7.4 million.
