A Mavs sweep Sparkies
By the Missoulian

The Class A Missoula Mavericks capped a perfect weekend by taking both halves of a Sunday doubleheader with the Great Falls Sparkies at Lindborg-Cregg Field.

The Mavs (10-7), who swept a twin bill Saturday with Kalispell, downed Great Falls 17-1 in the opener and followed with a 6-2 win in the nightcap.

Missoula exploded for 13 runs in the third inning and breezed to the win in the first contest which was called after four and a half innings due to the 10-run margin rule.

Center fielder Matt McMann paced the bats, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. He contributed a two-out, two-run single in the Mavs' big third frame. Left fielder Sam Sopko added pair of singles and three runs driven in.

Jake Schilling threw a complete-game one-hitter and bumped his record to 3-0. He fanned seven and didn't issue a walk.

The Mavs used a four-run bottom of the sixth to rally to victory in the second game.
