Former Bobcat gets five days in jail
By the Associated Press

BOZEMAN (AP) - A former Montana State University football player already facing drug charges will spend five days in jail, plus a year on probation, after pleading guilty Friday to partner assault.

Derrick L. Davis Jr., 22, entered his plea to misdemeanor partner assault, a second offense, in Bozeman City Court. The charge stemmed from an incident early Thursday.

“All we had was an argument,” Davis told City Judge Karl Seel during his initial appearance. “I never touched her, never struck her or anything like that.”

Police responded to a 911 hang-up call about 6 a.m. Thursday and found a woman who reported that a man had returned from a night of drinking and started throwing chairs and water bottles during an argument, court records said.

Davis was arrested and charged with partner assault.

In court Friday, he pleaded guilty without an attorney representing him, saying he wanted to put the incident behind him.

Seel sentenced Davis to five days in jail and a year of probation and fined him $1,085. City Prosecutor Susan Wordal had asked for a 10- to 15-day jail sentence.

Seel also told Davis to undergo anger-management classes and stay away from alcohol.
