He previously mentored under Ash at Iowa's Drake University, an MSU news release said.
Beck, who played football at Arizona State and Colorado State, has served as an assistant secondary coach at ISU the past three seasons. He was responsible for coaching both the safeties and cornerbacks and did some recruiting.
Before joining ISU's staff, Beck served two seasons at Drake. He coached the Bulldogs' defensive line and kickoff teams, handled the program's video system and had some recruiting responsibilities.
From 1994-2001, Beck served as varsity assistant coach/defensive coordinator at Forth Collins High School in Colorado.
Beck played at Arizona State from 1989-1990, and Colorado State from 1991-92.
He earned a master's degree in higher education from Iowa State this spring. In 2005, he received a master's degree in adult education and leadership policies from Drake.
In 2002, Beck graduated from Colorado State with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts.
