Class A Mavs fall to Bozeman at tourney

The Bozeman Bucks pieced together a big seventh inning rally to upend the hosting Missoula Mavericks, 9-7, at the opening day of the Mavs' American Legion invitational tournament Friday at Lindborg-Cregg Field.

The Mavs committed three of their four errors on the night in the fifth inning and the Bucks scored seven runs to take a four-run advantage heading into the final two innings of play.

Ben Leister hit a two-run triple in the fifth to lead the Bucks to the victory.

Robby King went 3-for-5 and knocked in a run and Sam Sopko hit a two-run double to lead the Mavericks.

Bozeman was the only team to win two games in the opening day of tournament play. The Bucks defeated Orofino, Idaho, 9-1, earlier in the day.

The Bitterroot Red Sox won their only game of the day with a 8-6 decision over Lethbridge, Alberta. Lethbridge was able to bounce back with a 12-4 win against Post Falls, Idaho.

Post Falls was the lone two-loss team on the day as they were also edged by Orofino, 8-7.

Tournament play continues Saturday at 9 a.m. at Lindborg-Cregg Field. The Mavs play at 5:15 p.m. against Lethbridge and at 8 p.m. against Orofino.

Mission Valley Mariners 10, Great Falls Black Sox 8

At Kalispell, the Mission Valley Mariners broke open a 5-5 stalemate with a five-run rally in the top of the sixth en route to a win over the Great Falls Black Sox at the opening day of the John R. Harp Class A American Legion baseball tournament.

Tim Rausch homered and drove in two runs to lead the Mariners (41-7).

On the mound, Brandon Roy pitched a complete game and collected his fifth win of the season.

Marshall Murray went 2-for-3 and knocked in a run to lead Great Falls.

Mission Valley Mariners 12, Glacier Twins 1

Kyle Bagnell pitched a six-hit complete game to lead the Mariners to a win at the opening day of the John R. Harp Class A American Legion baseball tournament.

Brandon Thompson was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle and drove in four runs to lead the Mariners at the plate.

Kyle Knox doubled and knocked in a run to lead the Twins.

Helena Senators 8

Gabe Weidenaar hit two home runs and finished 5-for-6 on the way to a Bitterroot Bucks win at the opening day Belgrade Class A American Legion tournament.

Sean Potkay added a homer for the Bucks and finished 3-for-5.

Adam Eckhart and Matt Williams both went 2-for-3 to lead Helena.
