Each year during the third weekend in July, the old ghost town of Bannack comes alive in a celebration of pioneer life.
Activities run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday and include horse and wagon rides, shootouts, a women’s suffrage debate, gold panning, cowboy poetry, a mountain men camp, black powder shooting, an 1800s U.S. Cavalry camp, a Western Union telegraph office, candle making, an old-time church service, camp dancing on the green, old-time music, food and more.
Admission is free. Visitor are encouraged to carpool as parking is limited; no pets allowed.
The state park is 17 miles west of Dillon off Highway 278. Turn south on Bannack Bench Road.
