Secretary of State says 56-county tour underway
Posted on Aug. 8

By the Associated Press

HELENA - Secretary of State Brad Johnson said Wednesday that he is undertaking a tour to visit all 56 county election administrators before the June 2008 primaries.

Johnson said he wants to hear their concerns and ideas as the office eyes such initiatives as making mail-in ballots a primary way to vote.

"It really is a listening tour to find out from them what we can do for them in Helena," Johnson said.

Johnson said he is also launching an e-mail discussion group linking all of the elections coordinators together as they plan for the 2008 elections.

In 2006, election officials complained of long lines brought on by same-day voter registration.

"There's always room for improvement," Johnson said. "What we want to do is minimize any of these bumps in the road along the way."
