Wyoming ends M's season at regionals
By the Missoulian

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Wheatland, Wyo., Lobos held of Mission Valley 6-4 in a loser-out game at the Northwest Regional Class A Legion baseball tournament on Sunday.

The loss ended a spectacular season for the Polson-based Montana State champions, who finished with a record of 61-10.

The Mariners took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Cubby Pierre scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Brown.

But the Lobos took a 3-1 lead on the strength of a bases-loaded two-run single by David Castle in the fourth inning. The Lobos added another run in the sixth to lead 4-1 and tacked on two more in the seventh.

The Mariners got one back in the eighth when Will Gordon doubled and came around to score on Tyler Linse's grounder.

The Mariners, down to their last at-bat, rallied for two runs in the ninth. John Rausch and Brandon Roy smacked consecutive doubles to score one run and Brandon Thompson drove home Roy to cut the gap to 6-4. But that was all Mission Valley could muster.

Roy tossed seven innings for the Mariners, allowing eight hits and four walks while striking out 11. Four Mission errors accounted for two unearned runs.
