Saturation patrol nets 6 DUIs
By BETSY COHEN of the Missoulian

Grizzly football fans kept Missoula City Police busy after the University of Montana's home game on Saturday.

With nine additional officers on patrol for the department's fourth “DUI saturation patrol,” there were plenty of enforcers in and around downtown Missoula in search of lawbreakers.

The saturation patrol was on duty from 3 p.m. Saturday until 3 a.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Jason Huntsinger.

During that time, police made six DUI arrests, wrote 138 citations for traffic offenses and arrested one person for an outstanding warrant.

Missoula police began doing saturation patrols about two years ago, and during all four events there have been no DUI crashes, Huntsinger, said.

Huntsinger described the patrol event as “successful,” but said another such event is not in the immediate future.

“I imagine there will be more,” he said, “but they take a lot of planning and manhours.”
