SKC celebrates

Salish Kootenai College celebrates its 30th anniversary with events Wednesday through Friday. The schedule:

WEDNESDAY

Day of Thanks

8 a.m.: Tepee setup.

11 a.m.: Introductions by Lois Slater, SKC director of development, SKC student body president Andrew Zimmer. Prayer by Mike Kenmille, honor song by Chief Cliff Drum Group.

11:30 a.m.: Welcome by Joe McDonald, SKC president; James Steele Jr., Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal chairman; Patty Stevens, SKC board chairperson.

Noon-1:30 p.m.: Free lunch at Qatsa Kakin, hand drum competition.

THURSDAY

Tradition Day

8:30 a.m.: Welcome by Andrew Zimmer, SKC student body president.

9 a.m.-3 p.m.: Tepee stations feature drum-making, beading, basket-weaving, pouch-making, stick game set-making, bustle-making, quill work. Traditional games featuring atlatel and run-and-scream at the football field, hoop and darts at the Michel Building and a tepee race on the library lawn.

Noon-1:30 p.m.: Indian taco lunch at Qatsa Kakin (free to those who obtain a ticket given at the tepee stations).

Noon-4 p.m.: SKC fitness run/walk, sign up at the Fitness Center.

FRIDAY

Legacy Day

9:30 a.m.: Registration, Joe McDonald Golf Scholarship Tournament, Silver Fox Golf Course.

10 a.m.: Welcome and prayer, Patty Stevens, SKC board chairperson.

10:30 a.m.: Shotgun start.

2:30 p.m.: Golf awards, Silver Fox Club House.

1-4 p.m.: Jack Gladstone Legacy Concert.

3:30 p.m.: Reception and dedication of the Health and Physical Education Building.

4 p.m.: Prayer ceremony by Johnny Arlee and honor song by Yamm'Cut, ribbon-cutting.

6 p.m.: Powwow, Two Eagle River School gymnasium.
