The three-time defending champ Bulldogs finished with three players in the top 10 to end the day with a team score of 318. The Broncs, who also finished at 318, placed two players in the top 10. Those two players, however, were in first and third after the first 18 holes.
Hamilton's Josh Grenier fired a 72 to take the lead. Defending champion Sam Krause of Whitefish followed two shots behind. Hamilton's Jake Wilson, Whitefish's Andre Groschupf and Zach Brehm of Billings Central are all tied for third after carding 76s.
The Red Devils finished at 361 to take a 12-shot lead over Whitefish. Polson is in third at 386, while Anaconda finished fourth at 399.
Glendive finished the opening day with three golfers in the top 10. Included in the mix is Kalli Stanhope, who sits atop of the leader board.
Stanhope carded an 81 and has a four-stroke lead over Anaconda's Erin Heaney. Livingston's Hanna Barney is in third after she finished with an 86 and Katy Peterson of Glendive is in fourth with a first-day 87.
The second and final day of the competition wraps up Thursday.
