The Montana Grizzlies fell from No. 1 to No. 3 in The Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision Top 25 poll released on Monday.

Northern Iowa took over the top spot with a 30-24 win over then-No. 7 Southern Illinois on Saturday. The Panthers received 35 of 110 first-place votes.

North Dakota State is ranked second after at 58-7 win over Mississippi Valley State. The Bison drew 23 first-place votes and edged out Montana 2,443 to 2,431 in points.

The Grizzlies had held the No. 1 ranking since Appalachian State lost on Sept. 22 to Wofford, but fell to third despite drawing the most first-place votes. Montana received 40 first-place votes, but was ranked low enough on other ballots to fall down the poll after its third consecutive lackluster victory.

Montana beat Sacramento State 17-3 Saturday in its first road game after edging Eastern Washington 24-23 and Weber State 18-10 in its previous two games.

Massachusetts held on to No. 4 with a four-overtime, 32-24 victory over Villanova, while idle Appalachian State stayed fifth. McNeese State remained undefeated with a 31-21 win over Sam Houston State and kept the sixth spot.

Wofford and James Madison moved up one slot each to seventh and eighth as Southern Illinois slid two positions to No. 9. Hofstra completes the top 10 for the second straight week, following a 20-3 win at Towson.

The Montana State Bobcats tumbled nine spots to No. 20 after a 35-13 loss at Eastern Washington.

With the win over the Bobcats, Eastern was one of three teams to move into the poll. The Eagles returned at No. 22 after a one-week absence.
