PUEBLO, Colo. - Two Colorado couples say they combined some special dates and lucky numbers to come up with a Powerball ticket that won them a $20 million jackpot.

Two of the winners are Stanislawa Markiewicz and her husband Eugen. The other two are Stanislawa's brother and sister-in-law, whose names weren't released at their request, Colorado Lottery spokeswoman Kristen Shew said.

The Markiewiczes came forward on Wednesday, two weeks after they won.

The winning numbers were 12, 16, 31, 33, 54 and the Powerball was 5. The winners said they have been playing the same numbers for years and even won $28 with them on Saturday.

The Markiewiczes and Stanislawa's brother were born in Poland, and all four immigrated to the U.S. legally from Germany, Shew said.

Shew said they live in the Denver area but did not want their home cities identified. The winning ticket was purchased at a Safeway store in the northwest suburb of Westminster.

They chose to take their winnings over 29 years. Their first check will be for $365,602 and the 30th and last will be for $1.1 million.

The winners said they plan to travel and may buy a house.

They are the first Coloradans to win the Powerball jackpot since the state joined the program in 2001.

It was the third-largest jackpot given away in Colorado, behind Lotto winnings of $27 million in 1992 and $21 million in 2000.
