Griz move up to No. 2
By the Missoulian

The Montana Grizzlies moved up to No. 2 in The Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision Top 25 poll released on Monday.

Montana (11-0), which beat Montana State 41-20 on the road Saturday, received 10 first-places votes. The Grizzlies are seeded No. 3 in the FCS playoffs and host No. 11 Wofford (8-3) in the first round on Saturday at 12:05.

Northern Iowa (11-0) received 97 of 113 first-place votes to retain the No. 1 ranking.

The Panthers, who received the top seed in the playoffs, have been ranked No. 1 since the seventh week of the season. They completed their first undefeated regular season since 1960 with a 48-10 victory over winless Southern Utah on Saturday. The Panthers face No. 17 New Hampshire (7-4) at home on Saturday in the first round.

McNeese State (11-0) moved up to No. 3. The Cowboys clinched the Southland Conference championship over Central Arkansas with a 41-14 win and picked up five first-place votes. They go into tournament play as the No. 2 seed and host No. 14 Eastern Washington (8-3) on Saturday.

No. 4 Southern Illinois (10-1) and No. 5 Appalachian State (9-2) were two other teams that took advantage of a 29-24 loss by North Dakota State to climb one place in the new poll.

The Bison, who fell from No. 2 to No. 8, came up short in the Great West Conference championship game at No. 21 South Dakota State (7-4). Both teams are ineligible for the playoffs because they are in their final year of a five-year transition period from Division II to Division I.

No. 6 Richmond (9-2) and No. 7 Massachusetts (9-2), the co-champions of the Colonial Athletic Association, also moved up a slot each with North Dakota State's loss.
