Arraignment hearing for Griz vacated
By TRISTAN SCOTT of the Missoulian

An arraignment hearing for University of Montana football player Jeramy Pate was vacated Tuesday at the Grizzly cornerback's behest.

Pate, 19, was arrested Nov. 11 along with two other teammates accused of taking part in a drug-related burglary that saw one man pistol-whipped and shocked with a stun gun. The alleged offenses, which include aggravated kidnapping and robbery, occurred at a house near the intersection of South Sixth Street West and Arthur Avenue, adjacent to campus.

Pate was released from the Missoula County jail last Friday after posting a $100,000 bond through Arrow Bail Bonds. Pate has retained Craig Shannon as his defense counsel, and Shannon made the request to reschedule the arraignment hearing.

He was originally scheduled to appear Tuesday in Missoula District Court beside co-defendant Mark Whetstone, 28, who is not a football player. Whetstone's hearing was also vacated.

Running back Greg Coleman, 22, pleaded not guilty to robbery, burglary and kidnapping charges last week. Another co-defendant, Levi Woods, 20, also has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Defensive end Mike Shelton, 21, is scheduled for arraignment next week.

Whetstone, who prosecutors believe helped initiate the “drug rip,” also is released on bond. He posted $150,000 through an unknown agent, according to the Missoula County jail roster.

The Grizzly players are among five suspects who were arrested. Meanwhile, former Grizzly cornerback Qwenton Freeman, who was dismissed from the football team after multiple arrests in June for disorderly conduct, also is a primary suspect in the robbery and remains at large.

The players are all suspended indefinitely from the team, and their names and profiles have been removed from the online players' roster.
