Two of the seven split-the-pot prizes at University of Montana home games went unclaimed this season.
The other unclaimed prize was from the game against Fort Lewis on Sept. 8. The pot was more than $9,000.
Following a story in last Saturday's Missoulian about the unlikeliness of such an event, Griz fans dug deep into their winter-coat pockets hoping to find the lucky ticket, said Sue Demers, assistant events coordinator.
The woman, too, went searching for split-the-pot tickets after reading the article and found them untarnished - stuffed inside a lipstick case, Demers said. (Winners' names are not released.)
Excited, she left numerous messages at the Grizzly athletic department early in the week claiming to have the winning ticket for the Northern Colorado game on Oct. 20.
It took several days for anyone to get back to her because of preparations for Saturday's playoff game, Demers said.
“She was fairly anxious,” she said.
Split-the-pot tickets for each game are a different color, Demers said. For the Northern Colorado game, tickets were gray. The woman brought in two tickets, presumably the only two she had purchased that day, still tucked away in the lipstick case.
“There they were, fresh and dry,” Demers said.
The woman told Demers she left the game early because of the cold weather.
Although there's a happy ending to this story, another split-the-pot remains unclaimed. Anyone who thinks he or she has that lucky winning ticket should call Demers at 243-2202.
