WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Braves start by trouncing Bulldogs
By the Missoulian

KALISPELL - Two-time defending State AA champion Kalispell Flathead opened the 2007-08 season with a dual win over former conference rival Butte during an all-school assembly Friday.

The Western AA Braves recorded four pins en route to the 64-7 win over now Eastern AA Butte.

The Bulldogs used to be in the West division, but after the high school split in Kalispell they were moved east. They still made the trek north to open against one of the nation's top 30 squads.

“It was a great way to start our season,” said Flathead head coach Jeff Thompson. “We were ranked really high, but rankings don't mean anything until you step on the mat, and we put on a show that entertained everybody.”

Butte rebounded to defeat Flathead Glacier 45-25 later on in the Wolfpack's very first dual meet.

Former state champ Brian Ham (135) was one of those to lead the Braves with a season-opening pin.

Lucas Cummings (135) and John Fransen (heavyweight) earned pins in Glacier's debut.
