The Loft seeing success thus far
By JOE NICKELL of the Missoulian

Editor's note: Throughout the week, the Missoulian will update readers on the people, places, events and issues that made their way onto our pages in 2007.

The Loft of Missoula - the new, private social club located at 119 W. Main St. - hasn't yet been open for a month, but already business has been brisk.

So brisk, in fact, that co-owner Chad Wold expects he'll sell out all available memberships to the club within the next three months.

“The reception downtown has been really fantastic,” said Wold. “We've sold about

75 percent of the available memberships already.”

The club, which was featured on the cover of the Nov. 29 issue of the Entertainer, caters equally to business people who need meeting space, and families who want - in Wold's words - “a country club without the golf.”

Membership prices reflect that analogy: Individuals must pay $2,000 up front, plus $175 a month in ongoing dues; corporate rates are higher.

Nevertheless, Missoula residents have embraced the new club. Wold said that members have already held several fundraisers for local charities, though he declined to name the beneficiaries of those fundraisers.

Building on the success of a similar club in Whitefish and the Missoula club's fast-selling debut, Wold and his business partners plan to open similar clubs in Bozeman and Bend, Ore., during the coming year. He said they also plan to open a club in Walla Walla, Wash., early in 2009.

“We're extremely happy with how things are going,” Wold said.
