But the Grizzly football standout has a pretty full schedule.
Currently he's running around Honolulu preparing for the 62nd Hula Bowl, Saturday at 4 p.m. Mountain, inside Aloha Stadium. By Saturday evening he'll be on a plane headed for Indianapolis, where he'll prepare for the NFL Combine Feb. 20-26.
So Biermann, the Hardin product who became UM's first Buck Buchanan Award winner - for the top defensive player in the NCAA's Football Championship Subdivision - has his immediate future planned out.
That includes getting back into the habit of reading the guard and filling passing lanes. Biermann is playing weakside linebacker these days. It's his first real action there since high school. He was quickly moved to defensive end upon his arrival at UM.
“It's going good,” he said Tuesday from Hawaii, where he flew on Sunday. “I'm getting used to it again and making the transition pretty good.”
There are obvious differences. Biermann, a supreme pass rusher who had 15 sacks in 2007 and 32 for his career, hasn't had much practice dropping into pass coverage. That's probably the biggest adjustment, he said.
“And reading the guards,” added Biermann, who was the Grizzlies' lone first-team selection to the Sports Network's FCS All-America team released Monday. “It's different, but it's not. It's still football. I'm just back a little farther, on my feet.”
Linebacker is probably the most likely position in the NFL for Biermann, who at 242 pounds - that's what he weighed when he got to Hawaii, he said - is a bit undersized for an NFL defensive end.
In the meantime, he's trying to find time to enjoy Hawaii during his stay.
“We got 7 a.m. to 11 (p.m.), with practice and interview and meetings, and eating,” he said. “There's been a little bit of fun.”
Biermann said he settled on Buddy Baker, the same agent ex-Griz running back and current Baltimore Raven Justin Green has, as his agent. Baker is based out of Indianapolis.
Biermann is one of just three FCS players on the West (or Kai) team. The others are Portland State center Brennan Carvalho and offensive tackle Brandon Keith of Northern Iowa.
Two Division II players dot the West roster: Chadron State running back Danny Woodhead, and West Texas A&M tight end Brent Miller.
The East (Aina) roster includes New Hampshire quarterback and 2006 Walter Payton Award winner Ricky Santos, receiver Paul Raymond of Brown, receiver Bruce Hocker of FCS mid-major Duquesne; defensive tackles Brandt Hollander of Yale and Macus Dixon of Hampton, defensive end Brian Johnston of Gardner-Webb, and Bryan Smith of McNeese State.
Smith, who like Biermann was a defensive end and Buchanan Award candidate, is playing strong-side linebacker for the East.
The Hula Bowl is not being televised.
Biermann, a second-team All-American selection by the Sports Network, moved up a spot to first team this season, and was one of three Grizzlies to make the top three teams.
Punter Tyson Johnson, a senior out of Stevensville who was second in the FCS in average, was a second-team pick. Dan Carpenter, a senior out of Helena who became the FCS career scoring leader this season, made the third team at place-kicker.
Several more Grizzlies made honorable mention, meaning they received 10 or more voting points from FCS media and sports information directors: Running back Lex Hilliard, offensive linemen J.D. Quinn, Colin Dow and Brent Russum, defensive tackle Craig Mettler and safety Colt Anderson.
Carvalho and Eastern Washington sophomore receiver Aaron Boyce were first-team picks on offense, while Montana State junior linebacker Bobby Daly, a Helena product, was first team on defense.
Joining UM's Johnson as second-team picks from the Big Sky were Eastern Washington guard Matt Alfred, and Northern Arizona cornerback K.J. Gerard.
Weber State offensive tackle David Hale was a third-team pick.
