William Anderson, assistant secretary for installations, environment and logistics, said in a statement Monday that the proposed plant would help wean the United States from foreign energy.
Col. Bob Griffin, senior military adviser to Anderson, said Air Force officials would explain their vision for the plant and take comments at the meeting, scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Civic Center.
Gov. Brian Schweitzer, who met with Anderson in October, supports the idea of a coal-to-liquids plant.
He said at the meeting that he was excited because the Air Force has the money, technology and willpower to build a plant.
Anderson said the Malmstrom plant, if built, could take up to 300 acres on the base and produce 25,000 barrels of fuel a day.
