Wildfire under investigation
Posted on Jan. 15

BILLINGS - A rare January wildfire that burned about 600 acres near the Yellowstone-Musselshell county line Friday is under investigation.

State officials have asked a federal Bureau of Land Management investigator to try to determine the cause.

The Marsh Assist fire threatened three structures north of Shepherd as it burned through grassy, rugged terrain. Musselshell County was in charge of managing the fire, with assistance from other local, state and federal agencies.

Snow on Friday and Saturday ended the danger, and the last firefighters left the scene Saturday afternoon.
