Find what you need, quickly
By JOYCE DOYLE for the Missoulian

Have you seen the new library logo? We’re excited to update our look while offering the same great service and programs the Missoula community has come to expect of the Missoula Public Library. So watch for our logo on flyers and brochures - you’ll know it’s for something great.

Looking for articles on health? Government? Current events? Religion? Fine arts? Find these and more in our InfoTrac database. InfoTrac lets you collect articles and citations from a variety ofmagazines, journals and newspapers in one simple search. You can narrow your results to a specific time period, full-text selections providing the entire article online, and even printed publications owned by Missoula Public Library.

Get started at our homepage, www.missoulapubliclibrary.org, and select “InfoTrac Magazine Database” from the dropdown “electronic databases” menu. If you’re in the library, you will instantly see a search screen and a list of our reference collections and additional products.

If you’re at home, you will be asked for your library card barcode and PIN. Or you can attend our upcoming InfoTrac quick course on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pre-registration is suggested. Call the library at 721-BOOK (2665).

We have it: staff reviews

The Missoula Public Library has five health newsletters in the magazine collection: “Harvard Heart Letter,” the “Harvard Women’s Health Watch,” the “Johns Hopkins Medical Letter Health After 50,” the “Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter” and the “University of California, Berkeley Wellness Letter.”

All of the newsletters are eight-page monthly publications that cover a wide variety of timely health topics. High-quality information that is authoritative and scientifically tested is offered in brief articles that are wellresearched and understandable to the layperson. Questions from readers are answered and sources, citations and Web sites are available.

Among the hundreds of recent articles in these newsletters you will find articles on COPD, fibromyalgia, the safety of cholesterol-lowering statins, risks and benefits of hormone therapy, Vitamin D, the use of magnets for pain relief, dementia-related agitation, breast cancer screening, what “one serving” of various foods should look like - hint one-half cup of fresh fruit equals one-half baseball - and macular degeneration. These newsletters are “highly recommended for public libraries” as reviewed in “Magazines for Libraries” and are available for your use at your library.
