Kerstin was born April 24, 1987, in La Jolla, Calif., the daughter of Roberto R. and Jane D. Alvarez. She graduated from Stevensville High School in 2005, attended Portland State University for two years from 2005 to 2007 and one semester at the University of Montana in 2007. Kerstin's passion was leading her to a culinary arts school in San Diego, Calif., in the fall of 2008.
Kerstin was a kind, loving and compassionate young woman. She made friends easily and was always ready to help others. She lived her life willfully and passionately and always fully in the moment. Her joy and love for her sisters will forever be in their hearts. Kerstin's natural born artistic talents showed in everything she did, from painting and cooking to creating her own clothing and style. Kerstin will be missed by her many family members, friends and co-workers, including her culinary mentor, Imi Kun in Silver Reef, Utah.
Kerstin is survived by her mother, Jane Alvarez; her father, Roberto Alvarez; her sisters, Margaux and Remy Alvarez; her grandmother, Jackie Hegedus. Also surviving are Jeff and Germaine Haberman, their children Jesse and Rachel; Mike and Denise Hegedus, their children Michele, Dane and Alexis; James and BJ Hegedus, and their children Jenevieve, Maxfield and Austin; Joseph and Gianna Hegedus, and their children, Bridger and Logan; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Mexico City.
A gathering for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at the family home. A celebration of her life will be held on Feb. 23, also at the family home.
