Carroll College signs eight recruits

HELENA - The Carroll College football team has signed eight recruits, including Joe Dunning and Matt White of Billings, Matt Ritter of Butte, and defensive back Eli Johnson from Rocky Mountain College, coach Mike Van Diest said.

Also signing with the Saints are Idaho State transfer wide receiver Pete Richter, quarterback Dane Broadhead of Rupert, Idaho; linebacker and running back Erik Heiss of Casper, Wyo.; and linebacker Colton Schofield of Henderson, Nev.

Dunning is a 6-1, 195-pound Class AA all-state linebacker from Billings Senior, which played for the state championship last fall. He was named the co-defensive MVP of the Eastern AA conference and his team's defensive MVP.

White is a 6-foot, 210-pound all-state linebacker from Billings West and had 123 tackles this past season. He played his sophomore and junior seasons at Billings Central.

Ritter is a 5-foot-10 quarterback and defensive back at Butte Central, earning all-state honors at quarterback and safety. He has earned conference MVP honors on both offense and defense.

The 5-11, 175-pound Johnson was an all-state back at Billings West. He started at corner last year for Rocky Mountain College and has three years of eligibility remaining.

The 5-10, 175-pound Richter was an all-state wide receiver at Timberline High School in Boise, Idaho and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Broadhead passed for 6,523 yards and 60 touchdowns in four seasons at Minico High School. Heiss rushed for 1,084 yards, had 132 yards receiving and scored 16 touchdowns for Kelly Walsh High. Schofield was defensive MVP for Coronado High School and his conference, and earned all-division honors at linebacker.

Carroll College posted a 15-0 record in 2007, winning its fifth NAIA national championship in six seasons.
