If you’re looking for presents that won’t add clutter to the life of your love, your Missoula vendors have some sweet ideas.
Candy always works, said an owner of the Bitterroot Flower Shop. Wendell Guthrie said some folks like to get a bowl of licorice for Valentine’s Day. A load of black licorice might sound just right for someone boycotting the holiday, but there’s a festive option, too.
The shop also carries soy-based candles, which burn clean and are made from a renewable resource.
On the naughty side, Rockin Rudy’s offers risque edible hearts. It’s candy that compliments - “Cute butt” - and makes racy invitations. (Ooh-la-la!)
There’s also lotions and oils and soaps and bath salts and lots and lots of chocolate. Buying local? You can find Montana huckleberry cordials at Rudy’s, too.
At Candy Bouquet, Betty Bagley offers chocolates and goodies in themes. She creates edible chocolate and candy bouquets and baskets especially for folks who like fishing or football or other hobbies. For Grizzly fans, she fills a silver bucket with Griz pretzels and other snacks, and she decorates it all in silver and maroon.
The Pattee Creek Market offers romance in a bottle with an Australian red wine called “First Love.”
“It’s perfect for Valentine’s Day,” said owner Jim Edwards.
Then there’s red, sparkling wine from Italy at Worden’s Market. The Brachetto d’Acqui is sweet but not cloyingly so, said wine manager Chris Niswanger.
“It’s definitely Valentine’s,” Niswanger said.
And evidently, it’s best to buy an extra bottle in case you feel the love and want more: “Once you have this stuff, you’ll be addicted.”
CVS, formerly Osco Drug, generally offers deals on delicious wines, too. The store has some pink wine - rose wine - in stock.
At press time, a Good Food Store manager did not know whether it would offer its chocolate-dipped strawberries for the occasion. This year, a berry shortage might mean lovers take a heartbreaking hiatus from the decadent treat.
