Idaho bighorn sheep tag sells for $65,000

BOISE, Idaho - Officials with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game say a Canadian hunter has bid $65,000 for Idaho's special bighorn sheep permit.

Frank Miles of Cecil Lake, British Columbia, made the bid Friday at the annual convention of the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep in Salt Lake City.

That's the most paid for an Idaho bighorn sheep auction permit that didn't allow hunting in Hells Canyon.

Hells Canyon is included every other year in the auction, and in 2005 brought in a record $180,000.

Money raised through the auction is used to help augment bighorn sheep populations in the state.
