First n in an obvious attempt to make us look unstable n Schutz stated that Anja Heister had “stepped down as president of Footloose Montana” and that I had taken her place. While I recently moved from vice president to president of Footloose Montana, Anja has been our executive director ever since the position was created.
Second, Schutz and other trappers would like to scare you into thinking hunters and anglers are next in line if trapping is banned. Nothing could be further from the truth. Neither hunters nor anglers hide “land mines” on public lands! Footloose Montana is a nonprofit organization that fully intends to stick to its mission statement of “promoting trap-free public lands for people, pets and wildlife.”
On a related subject, I want to remind people to report trapped pets at www.footloosemontana.org. No government agency keeps track of these incidents. Now that people have started reporting to us, we are shocked at just how many pets have become victims of leghold traps, body-gripping traps and snares.
For those wishing to learn how to free their pets from traps, Footloose Montana’s next trap-release workshop is on March 2 at the Ravalli County Museum in Hamilton. This will be an abbreviated version of our workshop, as it follows the 2:00 p.m. presentation of my digital slide show, “Around the World in 90 Minutes.” I hope to see you there!
Marty Essen is president of Footloose Montana. He lives in Victor.

We Outdoorsmen have heard that refrain many times: You, Mr Huntsman, or Fisherman have nothing to worry about. The next thing you know, we have plenty to worry about.
No thank you on the anti-trapping bill.

Albert
