Jewelry made by Ugandan women benefits charities
By JOYCE DOYLE for the Missoulian

Buy some colorful beads to dress up your outfits, and help those in need at the same time. Missoula Public Library's Young Adult Advisory Committee is hosting a sale for Bead for Life. The nonprofit distributes the colorful beads created by Ugandan women from recycled paper, and invests all proceeds into African community development projects - including food, medicine and school fees.

YAAC members will staff a sale table on several dates throughout the month - ask in the YA room for details or call the Young Adult department at 721-2665. You can find additional information about Bead for Life and how you can help at www.beadforlife.com.

Tax forms online

Crunch time is approaching and you need those fax forms. The library has provided online links to the Internal Revenue Service, "Free File" state forms, and software from our home page. You can print them from home or come to the library and print for the low price of 10 cents per page. Just go to missoulapubliclibrary.org and click on Tax Forms in the right-hand column. Unfortunately, we're not able to answer your tax questions - we'll leave that for the professionals.

"Power, Freedom and Grace: Living from the Source of Lasting Happiness" by Deepak Chopra. San Rafael, California: Amber-Allen Publishing, 2006. 294.54 CHOPRA

Readers familiar with Chopra's other writings and materials on spirituality, holistic health and human potential will find that Chopra delves deeper into the Vedanta. The Vedanta is one of the world's most ancient philosophies based on India's sacred scriptures from the Vedas and Upanishads. In "Power, Freedom and Grace," Chopra asserts that happiness seems to be the goal of all other goals. Most people seek happiness in material goals and possessions: fame, wealth, power, automobiles, houses, relationships. According to Vedanta, this kind of happiness is a form of misery because these things can be taken away at any time. To be happy for no reason is the happiness we want to experience.

To reach this state of happiness, Chopra guides us on a journey through a series of questions answered in 12 chapters. For example: Why do I forget who I am? How can I live in effortless ease? What is grace and how do I live it? The chapters are arranged into three parts: the "Problem," the "Prescription" and the "Practice." Old and new paradigms are offered in an appendix and show us ways to perceive ourselves as a body-mind expression of a unified field of intelligence/consciousness.
