The “Women & Money” brownbag lecture series will be taught by local female financial advisers who also have been active as supporters and volunteers of the YWCA.
“One of the hallmark programs at the YWCA is the economic advancement of women,” said Cindy Weese, executive director of Missoula’s YWCA. “We want to help women learn about and understand ways they can build their assets. We want to reach out to a diverse group of women in ages, income levels and backgrounds.”
“This is a first for us,” Weese said. “We’ve wanted to do this for a long time and reach out to women who typically don’t walk through the doors of the YWCA.”
Sydney Carlino, one of the experts speaking in the series, said she’s looking forward to the event.
“I just think the YWCA is such a worthwhile cause and I want to help draw attention to everything it does for our community,” said Carlino, who will speak about college planning. “The cost of the college education is inflating at a higher rate than the general economy. So it is important to start early.”
The April 4 session is “Investing 101 for Women,” by Anna Martello of Waddell & Reed. She is also president of the YWCA’s board.
On April 11, the lecture is “Beginning to Plan for Retirement,” by Shannone Hart, of Merrill Lynch.
The third lecture April 18 is “Planning for Your Children’s/Grandchildren’s Education,” by Sydney Carlino of Northern Rockies Financial Group.
The final lecture April 25 is “Ready for Retirement” by Jennifer Hope of Merrill Lynch.
The lectures will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the YWCA’s office, 1130 W. Broadway in Missoula. Drop-ins are welcome, Weese said.
The series is free to YWCA members and $10 at the door for the public.
