Class A Mavericks earn split with Dillon

DILLON - The Class A Missoula Mavericks banged out 16 hits to take a 17-4 win from Dillon in the second half of a Legion baseball doubleheader here Sunday afternoon.

Missoula scored five times in the seventh inning of the opener, but the rally fell short, allowing the Cubs to escape with an 8-6 win.

Tim Goins pitched a complete game and picked up the win for Dillon in the opener. He was 2-for-3 at the plate with a solo homer.

Cole Tybur led the Mavs, going 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Andrew Bewley was 4-for-5 with a three-run homer in the sixth inning and finished with five RBIs for the Mavs in their win in the nightcap. Robby King was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Derrick Dauenhauer (2-1) pitched the first 5 1-3 innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out three. CJ Wulf did not allow a hit in the final 1 2-3 innings.

Goins was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs for the Cubs.

Missoula, 7-2, hosts the Great Falls Electrics on Saturday.

Red Sox sweep Bucs

At Hamilton, the Red Sox edged past the Bucs with a pair of one-run wins in a doubleheader between the Bitterroot Valley's Class A Legion teams.

The Red Sox belted three homers in the first game en route to a 13-12 victory and then took advantage of seven walks in the late game for an 11-10 win.

Andrew Shook had a pair of homers in the early game and Rodee Anderson added a triple and a home run of his own to lead the Sox. The Red Sox duo finished with a combined seven RBIs.

Drew Brown struck out four batters in five innings and improved to 2-0.

The Bucs were led by Luke and Trevor Topp, who each had a homer in the early game.

In the second game, Wes Sherman was 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Red Sox to the win.

Jeremy Stevens and Trevor Stoos both went 2-for-4 and combined for five RBIs to lead the Bucs in the nightcap.

Mission Valley 14, Glacier 1

At Eureka, the Mariners ran away with the victory over Glacier to wrap up their third win in as many games over the weekend.

Tim Rausch struck out eight batters and allowed just one unearned run to lead Mission Valley to the win.

At the plate, Rausch was 2-for-2 and drove in three runs, while Tyler Linse finished 3-for-4 and added a pair of RBIs.

Chris Gross scored on a passed ball to deliver Glacier's lone run in the game.

The Mariners, who improved to 4-1, were led by strong pitching throughout the weekend.

Brandon Roy struck out seven batters to lead the M's to a 6-4 win over Kalispell Saturday, while Kyle Bagnell wrapped up the day with a 10-strikeout performance to lead Mission to an 8-1 win over Kootenai Valley.

Helena sweeps Deer Lodge

At Helena, the Reps had their bats rolling for a pair of wins in a doubleheader against Deer Lodge.

Helena used 18 hits in the opener to take a 25-1 win and followed it up with a 13-hit, 15-5 victory in the nightcap.

Colter Sternhagen was 2-for-3 with a homer and five RBIs to lead the Reps to the early win. Tony Roberts held Deer Lodge to just one run over four innings to lead the team on the mound.

Grady Stinchfield was 2-for-2 with a double and pair of RBIs to lead the Reps in the late game.

Will Anderson had two of Deer Lodge's six hits on the day, including a double in the second game.
