MSU men's basketball hires assistant
BOZEMAN (AP) - Marshalltown Community College assistant coach Temesghen Starr has been named an assistant men's basketball coach at Montana State, coach Brad Huse said Wednesday.
Starr, a Los Angeles native, recently completed his third season at Marshalltown in Iowa.
“I consider Temesghen to be an outstanding person and an outstanding young coach,” Huse said. “He has established a large recruiting network in a short time and will really assist our recruiting efforts in the Midwest and back in his home area.
“He's a very hard worker and that's important as we continue building our program,” Huse said. “Most importantly, he will be an excellent role model for our student-athletes.”
Starr graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio in 2004. He was a head coach at South Bay Lutheran High in Inglewood, Calif., during the 2003-04 season and an assistant at Taft High in Woodland Hills, Calif. from 2004-06. He has also coached an AAU team in Los Angeles.
Huse says he is likely to name another assistant within a week or so. He is seeking replacements for assistants Danny Sprinkle and Shawn Dirden, who resigned last month.

Board rehires Townsend football coach
TOWNSEND (AP) - The newly seated Townsend school board has voted to offer the head football coaching job to the same man whose contract wasn't renewed by the previous board in December.
There was no discussion prior to Tuesday's unanimous vote to offer the contract to Travis Rauh.
The vote reversed a Dec. 11 board decision that had been widely criticized by students and community members.
A committee appointed to review applications for the coaching job recommended offering the job to Rauh, who was the only applicant. The school board's vote was unanimous.
Two of the three board members who voted against renewing Rauh's contract did not seek re-election.
