LEGION BASEBALL: King paces Mavs to victory over Mariners
By the Missoulian

Missoula Mavericks third baseman Taylor King is on fire at the plate and he's helping the Class AA Mavs get hot as well.

King paced a 10-hit attack at Lindborg-Cregg Field and Missoula won for the sixth time in its last seven games, downing the Class A Mission Valley Mariners 11-4 in American Legion baseball action Thursday evening.

From his leadoff spot in the order, King went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. In his last four games, he's 10-for-14 with two homers, two triples and four doubles.

“It just seems like we've been starting off games with runners in scoring position,” said Mavericks manager Brent Hathaway after his squad improved to 12-4. “He's obviously hitting the ball very well and he's not chasing anything out of the zone.”

Anthony Maes improved his record to 4-0 with a solid five-inning start. He shutout the Mariners, allowing just two singles, while fanning two and walking a pair.

Cody Burgmeier went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI for the Mavs and Sam Sopko added a double and drove in a run.

Tim Rausch tripled for Mission Valley.
