LEGION ROUNDUP: Mavericks pound out pair of wins

BELGRADE - The Class AA Missoula Mavericks' bats stayed hot for both games of a doubleheader Saturday against the Belgrade Bandits.

Lincoln Mansch put out a fire over the final five frames of the opener and helped Missoula to a 14-10 victory before Cody Burgmeier's three RBIs paced the visitors to a 14-7 win in the second contest.

After starter Wes Martens allowed five Belgrade runs in the first two frames, Mansch came on and threw the last 5 1-3 innings to get the win and move to 3-0. He allowed just a walk and no runs.

Ben Roberts toted the big bat for Missoula, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Brendan Brown also went 3-for-4 for the Mavs with a triple and four driven in.

Down 10-4, Missoula pulled ahead for good with eight runs in the top of the fifth. Roberts doubled and tripled in the frame.

Burgmeier was 3-for-3 with a double in the second game. Brown doubled twice and Roberts tripled for the Mavericks, who ended the afternoon 14-4.

Shawn Griffith threw the first six innings, allowing 10 hits and two walks to go along with two strikeouts.

The Mavs visit the Helena Senators for a twin bill Sunday.

Cubs sweep A Mavs

The Dillon Cubs took both halves of a Class A doubleheader over the Missoula Mavericks, scoring identical 6-4 victories at Lindborg-Cregg Field.

In the opener, the Cubs scored three in the top of the seventh to rally past the home team. Zach McRae's RBI single tied it 4-4 before Tim Goins smacked a two-run homer to win it.

Connor Hartz went the distance for Dillon and scattered 10 hits while striking out six and walking three.

Brody Miller and Brent Daugherty each finished 3-for-3 to lead the Mavs.

The Cubs put up four runs in the first to back Jake Schmit, who earned the complete-game victory in the nightcap. Schmit surrendered four hits and five walks. He fanned six.

McRae went 2-for-4 with an RBI to pace Dillon.

Mat McMann tossed six innings for Missoula and took the loss to fall to 1-3. The Mavs (10-5) received a single and a run scored from Conner Anderson.

Red Sox sweep Salmon

At Hamilton, the Bitterroot Red Sox played the part of the visitors, but still swept Salmon in a pair of conference games on their home field.

Drew Brown tossed a no-hitter in leading Bitterroot to a 19-1 win in the late game, while three pitchers combined on a three-hitter in the Red Sox's 13-1 win in the opener.

Brown struck out nine and walked just one in moving his record to 3-1 this year. Andrew Shook went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a run batted in. Brady Anderson had two hits and three RBIs.

In the opener, Matt Hamlin hit three doubles and had three RBIs. Michael Stanford got the win by pitching four innings of hitless ball for Bitterroot (4-0, 10-3).

Bucs split with Mariners

At Florence, the Bitterroot Bucs split a pair of Class A games with the Mission Valley Mariners.

In the first game, the Bucs rallied in the bottom of the seventh for an 11-10 win when the Mariners misplayed a bunt by Zack Blackstun and Luke Topp scored from second base.

Topp finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs while Matthew Perez went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jeremy Stevens finished 2-for-3.

Mission Valley had rallied to take the lead with eight runs in the top of the seventh. Eric Locke went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Mariners.

In the second game, Locke struck out six hitters in three innings as Mission Valley secured a 10-8 win.

Tim Rausch went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs for the Mariners. Brandon Roy ended 2-for-4.

Billy Hannah was 1-for-3 with three RBIs for Bitterroot.
