MISSOULA - The University of Montana women's basketball team will face 2006 NCAA national champion Maryland during a round-robin tournament in Cancun, Mexico over Thanksgiving break, coach Robin Selvig said Thursday.

Maryland is ranked second in preseason polls and team members include preseason All-America candidates Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver, who won the 2008 Nancy Lieberman Award in April as the nation's top point guard.

The Terrapins have gone 95-14 over the past three seasons and advanced to the Elite Eight this past season before falling to Stanford 98-87 in a regional final game played in Spokane, Wash.

"This tournament is obviously the highlight of our nonconference schedule," Selvig said. "Maryland is one of the top teams in the country with exciting players. I got a chance to watch them in Spokane and they are a really talented outfit."

Montana also will play Illinois and South Dakota State at the Caribbean Challenge. Games will be played Nov. 26-28.

Illinois went 20-15 during the 2007-08 season and made its fourth straight appearance in the WNIT. South Dakota State was 23-7 last year, making its second straight trip to the WNIT.

The rest of Montana's 2008-09 season is being scheduled.
