Country star Martina McBride to perform in Missoula
By JAMIE KELLY of the Missoulian

Martina McBride, four-time Female Country Vocalist of the Year, will perform a concert at the University of Montana's Adams Center on July 31.

McBride, whose ninth studio album, “Waking Up Laughing,” was released last year, brings her band to the stage for a 7:30 p.m. show.

Tickets go on sale May 30 at 10 a.m. Priced from $35.50 to $59.50, plus ticketing fees, they are available at all GrizTix outlets (the Adams Center box office, The Source in the University Center, Southgate Mall, Worden's Market), at www.griztix.com or by calling 1-888-MONTANA.

With 16 million albums sold, McBride is among the elite of country music singers. Known for her soaring soprano voice and vocal control, McBride is one of the few country artists who have managed to straddle success in both the country and pop world.

She has had numerous No. 1 country hits, many of which also appear on adult contemporary charts. McBride's commercial breakthrough was 1993's “The Way That I Am,” from which three songs appeared in the Top 40, including “Independence Day,” a song about domestic violence.

Her biggest commercial success was 2005's “Timeless,” a recording of classic country songs that reached the No. 1 spot on the charts.

The 41-year-old McBride is also known for her charity work campaigning to end domestic violence against women. She is the spokeswoman for the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
