The Missoula Mavericks AA American Legion baseball team wrapped up a four-win weekend Sunday with a pair of victories over the Glacier Twins.
The Mavs opened with a 9-5 win and then wrapped up their weekend road trip to the north country with a 13-3 decision.
“We got four conference wins, which is what we set out to do,” Mavericks coach Brent Hathaway said.
“We also realized that we had a few things to still work on, but it was a good weekend win-wise.”
The Mavs shifted gears late in the first game to make up a five-run deficit.
Brendan Brown led off the fourth with a homer to put the team's first run on the board and the Mavs added three more in the frame to jump back into the game.
Missoula tacked on another four runs over the next two innings to take control and Taylor Nordby put on the finishing touches with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.
Brown also doubled in the game to finish up 2-for-3. He pitched five innings in a solid outing on the mound to improve to 4-2 on the year.
In the nightcap, Sam Sopko was 2-for-3 and knocked in three runs to lead Missoula. Taylor King, Sean Dwyer and Drew Lytle each drove in a pair of runs.
Wes Martens (2-1) pitched five innings of three-run ball en route to his second win.
Glacier's Brad Nielsen was 3-for-5 in the doubleheader to lead the Twins.
