LEGION ROUNDUP: Mavs slide past Electrics
By the Missoulian

GREAT FALLS - The Missoula Mavericks claimed their ninth Western Conference Legion AA baseball win in as many tries Thursday with a 14-12 win over the Great Falls Electrics.

The Mavs (9-0, 35-12) had quite the head start in the game with a seven-run first inning, but it almost wasn't enough as the persistent Electric City squad collected 20 hits and scored in all but one of nine innings.

Missoula however, was quite efficient from the plate, scoring its runs off of just 13 hits.

Taylor King, Andy Freeman and Brendan Brown combined for eight of those hits, while knocking in three runs apiece. King finished with a pair of doubles and drove in all three of his runs in the top of the first.

Brown started the game for Missoula and went six innings before Lincoln Mansch took the mound in relief. Mansch ultimately picked up the win for Missoula after the Mavs grabbed the lead again with four runs in the top of the eighth to go up 13-11.

Casey Johnson and Hunter Carlyon each tripled and drove in a pair of runs to pace Great Falls.

Next up for the Mavs is the Rapid City Firecracker tournament in South Dakota, July 1-6.
