LEGION ROUNDUP: Class A Mavericks earn split with Butte
By the Missoulian

BUTTE - After posting a convincing 14-2 win in the first half of a doubleheader Saturday, the Class A Missoula Mavericks let the nightcap slip away as Butte plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh en route to a 11-10 decision.

Butte's Justin Dunbar tripled in the tying run for the Muckers in the late game and Alex Briggs singled in the winner to lead Butte to the nonconference split.

Conner Anderson was 3-for-3 with a triple and CJ Wolfe was 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of runs batted in to lead the Mavs in the second game.

In early action, Anthony Maes made sure that the Butte bats weren't going to spoil his outing on the mound.

After a rocky start, where Maes allowed three hits and a pair of runs in the opening inning, the Maverick hurler held his opponents to just a single the rest of the way for a complete-game win. Maes finished with six strikeouts en route to his first win of the season.

Jordan Schafer had three hits for the Mavs and crossed the plate just as many times, while Andrew Schmautz drove in three runs and finished with a pair of hits. Derrick Dauenhauer also had a pair of hits, including a double.

The Mavs, who are now 20-15 on the year, return to the diamond Sunday at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader with the Glacier Twins.
